Cross Trainer Equipment
Clearly, cross trainer equipment is not considered cheap fitness equipment. If, after studying the manufacturers and other websites, you find that you would be better off buying cheap fitness equipment (in the event that you are just starting), then you should consider some of the following alternatives:
Used Cross Trainer Equipment
Most health and fitness centres retire their fitness equipment after a certain amount of years. In many cases, the equipment still operates as if it were new. In other cases, the equipment gets refurbished and resold.
The benefits to used cross trainer equipment is that it will be considerably cheaper. The downside is that you are still buying club-quality equipment, which means even at half-price or better, your equipment will not come cheap.
Stationary Bike
If you are just starting off with a cardiovascular routine, consider starting with a stationary bike. Most bikes are relatively inexpensive and of fairly good quality, meaning that even if you spend a couple of hundred dollars you will probably still be able to get onto a decent piece of equipment.
Work-At-Home Programs
There are many valuabe and reputable home workout programs, like the P90X program, that will work just fine for a relatively low price (compared to a high quality elliptical cross trainer). While these programs will not provide you with the same comprehensive workout that cross trainer equipment will. However, if your goal is simply to get started and get a well-rounded workout experience, then work-at-home prorgrams will work just fine.
Used Workout Equipment
You can find a lot of used workout equipment at yard sales, on e-Bay, in your local classified ads, and just about anywhere people can posted their (un)used exercise equipment for sale.
Buying a used set of weights probably will not cost more than $50. A used stationary bike might run you $20 at a yard sale. The point is, used equipment can be purchased for cheap if you do not need to purchase brand-new equipment.
